AMD champions choice with new high-performance graphics cards from add-in-board partners

Today, ASUS announced its AREZ-branded AMD Radeon RX graphics cards and over the coming weeks, you can expect to see more add-in board partners launch new brands carrying the AMD Radeon name.

AMD is pledging to reignite freedom of choice when gamers choose an AMD Radeon RX graphics card. These brands will share the same values of openness, innovation and inclusivity that most gamers take to heart, and will share the four values central to AMD Radeon:

·         A dedication to open innovation – AMD works tirelessly to advance PC gaming through close collaboration with hardware standards bodies, API and game developers, making its technologies available to all to help further the industry. Through our collaboration with JEDEC on memory standards like HBM and HBM2, Microsoft on DirectX and Khronos on Vulkan, and through the GPUOpen initiative where we provide access to a comprehensive collection of visual effects, productivity tools, and other content at no cost, we’re enabling the industry to the benefit of gamers.
·         A commitment to true transparency through industry standards – Through industry standards like FreeSync, AMD provides the PC ecosystem with technologies that significantly enhance gamers’ experiences, enabling partners to adopt them at no cost to consumers, rather than penalizing gamers with proprietary technology “taxes” and limiting their choice in displays.
·         Real partnerships with real consistency – AMD works closely with AIB partners on equal footing, so that our customers are empowered with the best, high-performance, high quality gaming products and technologies available from AMD. No anti-gamer / anti-competitive strings attached.
·         Expanding the PC gaming ecosystem – We create open and free game development technologies that enable the next generation of immersive gaming experiences across PC and console ecosystems. These efforts have resulted in advancements such as FreeSync adoption on TVs for XBOX One S or X, integration of forward looking Vega features and technologies into Far Cry 5 without penalizing the competition, and of inclusion of open sourced AMD innovations into the Vulkan API which game developers can adopt freely.

Through AMD’s add-in-board partners that carry forward the AMD Radeon RX brand, the company is continuing to push the industry openly, transparently and without restrictions so that gamers have access to the best immersive technologies, APIs and experiences.

AMD Fuels Pro Video Powerhouse: Accelerated REDCODE RAW 8K Workflows for Adobe Premiere Pro CC with AMD Radeon Pro SSG Graphics

AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) and Adobe today announced a powerful new solution for demanding 4K and 8K video workflows that enables seamless editing of popular video formats, accelerating the production process while giving editors unprecedented control of their projects using high-resolution, uncompressed footage. Launching at the 2018 NAB Show next week, the new version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC includes native support for AMD Radeon Pro SSG graphics, the groundbreaking solution designed specifically for video production that combines the extraordinary performance and capabilities of AMD “Vega” GPU architecture with 2TB of NVMe storage integrated onto the graphics card. Together, Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Radeon Pro SSG represent the most compelling solution for high-resolution video production, supporting 4K and 8K footage in popular native camera formats, including ARRI AMIRA, Canon XF and RAW, Panasonic AVC and P2, REDCODE RAW, and Sony XDCAM, XAVC, and RAW. Working directly with these source formats typically requires extraordinary computational performance and memory capacity to decode them in real-time. The Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Radeon Pro SSG workflow reduces the CPU and memory bottlenecks traditionally encountered, allowing editors to do their best work with uncompressed visual fidelity.
“The promise of filming in 4K and 8K has always been about removing creative constraints, about providing more creative control with higher-resolution footage. Unfortunately, those creative ambitions have been sidelined by technology limitations that have made 4K and 8K editing practically impossible,” said Ogi Brkic, general manager, professional graphics, Radeon Technologies Group, AMD. “Today, reality catches up to ambition as Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Radeon Pro SSG deliver the high-resolution workflow you’ve always dreamed of, enabling accelerated editing of a wide range of media, letting creators bring their visions to life in uncompressed 8K glory.”
“Adobe Premiere Pro CC has always been the standard bearer for innovation in editing, introducing 4K, 8K and 360-video workflows to enable editors to expand their capabilities and explore their creativity. Today, through our collaboration with AMD, we’re taking high-resolution editing to a new level in Adobe Premiere Pro CC with support for Radeon Pro SSG,” said Sue Skidmore, head of partner relations for Video at Adobe. “Collectively, Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Radeon Pro SSG represents the ideal solution for 4K and 8K workflows, with software and hardware designed to allow your creativity to shine.”
Most productions today film in high resolution – 4K or 8K – to provide the greatest flexibility in post-production; however there has been no effective way to edit multiple streams of that footage at full resolution. Editors have been forced to do their work with proxy files rather than the original high-resolution footage, transcoding to lower resolutions that are more easily managed by most workstations. With the combination of Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Radeon Pro SSG, proxy files are a thing of the past. Editors can now work with multiple streams of 4K or 8K footage at full resolution in an uncompressed format as smoothly as they could with lower quality proxy files. The solution dramatically reduces CPU utilization and eliminates the burden on local memory, allowing edits to footage while preserving the base cache if anything needs to be reverted or changed, and serves as a persistent cache that can be moved from workstation to workstation as needed without having to reload footage.
Radeon Pro SSG
The Radeon Pro SSG represents a fundamental shift in the science of PC technology, incorporating high-speed, high-capacity NVMe devices onboard the graphics card. It is the first graphics card to offer 2TB of storage specifically for demanding workflows such as high-resolution video, VR, and 360 video stitching. The Radeon Pro SSG harnesses the “Vega” GPU architecture, delivering up to 12.3 TFLOPS of peak single precision compute performance for the most demanding workloads. The card also features 16GB of High-Bandwidth Cache based on the newest, ultra-fast HBM2 Error Correcting Code (ECC) Memory1, and harnesses the revolutionary High Bandwidth Cache Controller (HBCC), the world's most advanced GPU memory architecture.
Availability
Adobe Premiere Pro CC with native support for Radeon Pro SSG will be available April 3, and the Adobe Premiere Pro CC + Radeon Pro SSG workflow is expected to be supported on validated workstation platforms soon. Those attending the 2018 NAB Show can see the new workflow in action at AMD’s booth, #SL8224, South Hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Forward-looking statements are commonly identified by words such as "would," "intends," "believes," "expects," "may," "will," "should," "seeks," "intends," "plans," "pro forma," "estimates," "anticipates," or the negative of these words and phrases, other variations of these words and phrases or comparable terminology. Investors are cautioned that the forward-looking statements in this document are based on current beliefs, assumptions and expectations, speak only as of the date of this document and involve risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from current expectations. Such statements are subject to certain known and unknown risks and uncertainties, many of which are difficult to predict and generally beyond AMD's control, that could cause actual results and other future events to differ materially from those expressed in, or implied or projected by, the forward-looking information and statements. Material factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from current expectations include, without limitation, the following: Intel Corporation’s dominance of the microprocessor market and its aggressive business practices may limit AMD’s ability to compete effectively; AMD has a wafer supply agreement with GF with obligations to purchase all of its microprocessor and APU product requirements, and a certain portion of its GPU product requirements, from GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc.
